In a surprise move, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced it is lowering the price of its Xbox Game Pass subscription service. However, that comes with a caveat.
With the price cut, Game Pass Ultimate now costs $23 a month instead of $30. PC Game Pass also sees a price cut to $14 a month, down from $16.49. All other Game Pass Tiers remain at their current prices.
This comes with a big trade-off – Call of Duty games will no longer be on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. Instead, they will be available on both subscription tiers during the following holiday season.
This could be an attempt to regain revenue potentially lost from putting Call of Duty on Game Pass. The series is a big part of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.
Microsoft might not be done. Rumors point to a new, lower-priced Game Pass tier that only offers first-party games.
