Halo: Campaign Evolved’s co-op on PS5 is weird

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to release in a little over a month. However, those on PlayStation 5 might need to sit down for this one.

In a community Q&A about the upcoming shooter on Halo Waypoint, community manager John Junyszek confirmed it will support local split-screen. Although there are no Xbox account requirements, those on PS5 will have to contend with having two PS Plus subscriptions.

“If you’re playing split-screen on PlayStation 5, both accounts will need to have PlayStation Plus and be linked to a Microsoft account,” wrote Junyszek.

“”Having these active PlayStation Plus subscriptions will also provide access to online co-op play.”

If you’re playing online, this makes sense. While the PS Plus subscription nets you online features, the Microsoft account allows for cross-progression for each player.

Making PS Plus a requirement for local co-op, though, is much more baffling. It’s as if Microsoft is doing what it can to make the PS5 version lesser than.
