After a decade of work, a fan recreation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been cancelled.
In a blog post on the project’s Patreon page, YouTube user CryZENx did not give an explicit reason for the cancellation. However, they said that “it’s better to just stop the project for now or I would [have] disappeared…because of Nintendo ninjas.”
Later in the post, CryZENx polled the community about what project to tackle next. The list contains various Nintendo properties, including Diddy Kong Racing and Metroid Prime Hunters.
They are likely alluding to Nintendo’s litigious nature when it comes to its intellectual property. In recent times, Nintendo sued Genki for its “unauthorized” Switch 2 mockups and Palworld developer Pocketpair for its character designs.
It also doesn’t help that Nintendo announced a remake of Ocarina of Time around two weeks ago. The game is due out on the Switch 2 sometime this year.
