OnePlus announced it has pulled its OxygenOS 16.0.7.XXX and 16.0.5.XXX updates, but it’s for a good reason.
According to the company on its community forum, some phones that received the updates exhibited abnormal restart and boot problems. The software bug would force the phone into what’s known as a boot-loop, or an endless cycle of restarts.
OnePlus said only a “small number of devices” exhibited issues with the updates. Regardless, the company decided to play it safe and pull the updates for the time being.
OnePlus said its engineers are working to identify the root cause of the problems. It also said future updates will go through additional validation tests to make sure they are stable and reliable.
In the meantime, OnePlus is urging users to not sideload unofficial versions of the updates from third-party sources. It also said users should skip any manual flashes of the updates until it announces a fix.
This is not the first time OnePlus has had to pull an update. Back in 2023, the company pulled an update after it made older smartphones virtually unusable.
