Xbox is still working on Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox, but CEO Asha Sharma gave some insight into what it could be.
Speaking with BBC News, Sharma teased that Project Helix might not just be one device. Instead, it would be a “family of devices.”
“We’ve been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we’ll share more soon,” said Sharma.
Sharma did not say if Helix would be a disc-less console, but things seem to be trending in that direction. Microsoft already has a disc-less version of the Series X, and Sony announced it would halt disc production of PlayStation games released after January 2028.
On the flip side, Microsoft could differentiate itself by offering a console with a disc reader.
It could also differentiate itself by offering this “family” of devices. Back in 2025, Microsoft and AMD announced a partnership that would include a “portfolio of devices,” including Project Helix.
Coupled with the rumor that third parties will be able to sell their own Project Helix devices, and Xbox’ gaming future could be more varied than originally conceived.
