It might be over nine years old at this point, but that does not mean the original Nintendo Switch is going anywhere.
Speaking with investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa hinted that the company still plans to support the hybrid console. “It is important…to expand the entire software business…instead of focusing only on [Switch 2] software,” said Furukawa.
He also said it’s important to “encourage people to transition to Nintendo Switch 2 at their own pace…increase the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base over the medium to long term.”
Although first-party releases for the original Switch have been non-existent, third-party developers continue to release games for it. For example, Konami plans to release two Metal Gear Solid games for the console in August.
Furukawa’s comments come as the Switch 2 nears its first birthday. Nintendo announced a price hike for the hybrid console, taking the price from $449.99 to $499.99.
