In lieu of tariff refunds to customers, Nintendo announced what it calls its Customer Appreciation Sale.
Starting tonight at 9:00pm Pacific and running through September 26, Nintendo will slash 30 percent off “dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles.” These discounts will also be available for “select” physical games, DLC, accessories, Amiibo, and apparel.
Nintendo did not say which games would be discounted, including whether its own games would be discounted.
The company said this is its “way of saying thank you to Nintendo players for their continued support.” It confirmed it will not issue refunds to its customers for tariff-affected purchases.
It’s hard not to feel a bit cynical about this, though. Don’t get me wrong – I always appreciate a good discounted game, especially when everything nowadays seems to be more expensive than before.
That said, Nintendo confirmed it already absorbed most of the tariff-related costs. Now the company wants even more money by means of game discounts and presenting it as appreciation for its customers. Weird.
