OpenAI’s rumored “Adult Mode” for its ChatGPT AI chatbot has reportedly been put on an indefinite hold.
This is according to a Financial Times report, which claims the feature was supposed to launch this past December. However, it faced several delays, including one in early March.
These delays were reportedly due to concerns over potential unhealthy emotional dependence. There were also concerns over underage users being able to access Adult Mode.
Adult Mode was reportedly designed to provide erotic content for verified adults. However, as we have seen with regular ChatGPT, the potential for a relationship with the AI chatbot does exist. In some cases, this has spiraled into bouts of psychosis that, in one case, led to a person’s death.
Even if Adult Mode was released, OpenAI isn’t in a great spot right now.
The company shelved its Sora AI video generator, as well as an “instant checkout” feature for ChatGPT. This is potentially due to OpenAI’s lack of profitability, which is what may have led it to incorporate ads into ChatGPT.
