Another day, another Sony-owned video game developer closing its doors. This time around, it seems to be the nascent Dark Outlaw Games.
According to a Bloomberg report, the studio was working on a PlayStation title prior to its shutdown. Dark Outlaw Games did not announce what it was working on, but it’s safe to say it may have been a multiplayer project.
The report claims the studio shutdown is being paired with layoffs of employees focused on mobile development. Sony has not yet commented on the report.
Founded only last year, Dark Outlaw Games was led by former Call of Duty producer Jason Blundell. He had worked on various Call of Duty titles over the years, with the most recent being Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
As for Sony, it has made a habit of shutting down studios and laying off staff over the last year.
It shut down Firewalk Studios in October 2024 after multiplayer shooter Concord was cancelled. That was followed up by Bluepoint Games in February 2025 after the studio tried several times to get a live-service God of War game off the ground.
