Beginning with the upcoming Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Nintendo announced it will implement a new pricing strategy for first-party Switch 2 titles.
Up until now, physical and digital Nintendo games were priced the same when they were first released. Moving forward, they will have “different” manufacturer’s suggested retail prices.
Nintendo did not say whether this means digital games will cost less than physical games. However, the digital version of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will cost $59.99 when it releases on May 21. The physical version will cost $10 more.
“Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games,” reads the press release.
Nintendo also noted its retail partners can still set their own prices. Only time will tell if that remains the case or if retailers follow Nintendo’s lead.
