Meta seems ready to fire up the chopping block again as it’s looking to lay off hundreds of employees across the company.
According to reports from The Information, NBC News, and The New York Times, the layoffs affect workers from Meta’s recruiting, social media, and sales teams. They also reportedly affect those in Reality Labs, which develops the Quest virtual reality headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses.
In a statement, Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton did not say exactly how many employees were laid off or why the layoffs are happening to begin with. Clayton did say Meta would help impacted workers by “finding other opportunities.”
“Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals,” said Clayton.
“Where possible, we are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted.”\
2026 has been a bit of a bloodbath at Meta. In January, the company laid off around 1,000 employees from Reality Labs and shut down three VR studios. It also cancelled any new content for Supernatural.
February hasn’t gone much better, with Meta flip-flopping on whether to discontinue Horizon Worlds.
