The ongoing RAM shortage has led to price increases across many products, with Amazon the latest to be affected.
As first reported by Fortune, Amazon is increasing the prices of its Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero devices by at least 11 percent. The Echo Dot, for example, jumps from $49.99 to $79.99. Meanwhile, the Echo Show 21 goes from $399.99 to $499.99.
In a statement sent to The Verge, Amazon senior communications manager of devices and services Kristy Schmidt chalked up the price increases to increases in memory and storage component costs.
“The consumer electronics industry is facing significant increases in memory and storage component costs,” reads the statement.
“After absorbing these increases for as long as we could, we recently adjusted pricing across our product lines. Our approach has always been to offer great products at accessible prices, and that commitment hasn’t changed.”
The silver lining is not all of Amazon’s products are affected by the price increases. Its Ring cameras and video doorbells, along with the Echo Studio and its higher-end Kindle devices, get to keep their current prices. That doesn’t mean that won’t change in the future, however.
