Microsoft announced cheaper versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop. Huzzah? Not quite.
Yes, they are cheaper – the Surface Pro costs $849, while the Surface Laptop costs $949. However, that is because Microsoft cut the amount of RAM each has in half. That means both devices come with 8GB of RAM instead of 16GB.
The good news is everything else about them is the same. They come with the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor and 256GB of storage, but no Copilot Plus due to the lower amount of RAM. I’m not sure that will be a loss for some folks, however.
Either way you look at it, the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop remain more expensive than the MacBook Neo, which starts at $599 for the same amount of memory and storage. Then there’s the question of Windows and 8GB of memory, which might not be enough if you plan to do anything more than web browsing.
