Out of the blue, Halo Infinite received a new update that is far from your typical bug-squashing update.
First up is the new game mode. Titled Firefight: Gauntlet, it pits you and up to three others against endless waves of enemies and bosses, the latter called arena champions.
As you progress through the waves, you gain points that can be used to upgrade your character. These include increased damage, resistance, recovery, and speed.
If you take too long to clear an arena champion, the Harbinger will appear and increase the difficulty. There’s no true “endpoint” to the mode, as you fight to see how high you can take your score.
The update also includes two new Forge maps and puts the Ranked Legacy playlist in rotation.
For all intents and purposes, development on Halo Infinite was thought to have ceased. That makes this update a curious one, as it puts the game’s future once again into question.
Regardless, it seems Halo Studios is pretty busy at the moment. The studio is set to release Halo: Campaign Evolved sometime this summer and is reportedly working on remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3.
