It’s been almost five years since it was announced, yet Star Wars Eclipse does not look like it will release anytime soon.
According to an Insider Gaming report, development on the game is “very slow going.” Developer Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, is seemingly at a standstill when it comes to Star Wars Eclipse.
The report claims this is not because of the studio’s creative ability. Rather, it’s reportedly due to a lack of finances.
Quantic Dream is reportedly hoping the recently-released Spellcasters Chronicles can generate enough money to continue to fund the work behind Star Wars Eclipse. That is looking a bit dicey, unfortunately – Spellcasters Chronicles released in late February into Early Access and has garnered “Mixed” reviews on Steam.
The issue could also be due to the studio itself.
In 2018, several reports pointed to Quantic Dream being a hostile work environment. Some examples included under-appreciated employees, significant workloads, a sexist and racist culture, and inappropriate words and actions from management.
Founder David Cage and CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere pushed back against the allegations and filed lawsuits against the outlets that published the reports. The pair ultimately lost the lawsuits in 2021.
Quantic Dream unveiled Star Wars Eclipse during the 2021 iteration of The Game Awards. Since then, the studio has been extremely quiet on the game’s progress.
