Earlier today on social media, publisher Electronic Arts announced the console version of Battlefield Hardline will shut down in June.
The process begins on May 22, when EA will remove the game from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One storefronts. EA will also remove any purchasable in-game content on the same day.
We then get to June 22, when EA will shut down the game’s servers.
The good news is the single-player campaign for Battlefield Hardline will remain intact. Also, physical copies of the game will remain playable offline.
Interestingly, the PC version of Battlefield Hardline will be unaffected by the shutdown. It will remain on sale after May 22, and its servers will remain intact after June 22.
EA provided a blanket statement on the matter and said it typically shuts down games if fewer than one percent of all peak online players across EA games are playing them. As such, “it’s no longer feasible” for EA to maintain servers and upkeep for those games.
Released in March 2015, Battlefield Hardline shifted away from the series’ military warfare elements. Instead, it focused more on crime, heist, and policing elements.
Although critics praised the game’s multiplayer mode, they criticized the campaign’s narrative and stealth gameplay. It sold pretty well, but currently sits with an average score in the low 70s on Metacritic.
