After almost 20 years, it seems that Sony is set to retire the PlayStation Network name later this year.

That is according to a GameSpot report, which claims Sony sent out an email to developers. In the email, Sony reportedly confirmed it will no longer use PlayStation Network or PSN naming by September 2026.

“We’d like to inform you that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has strategically decided to phase out the terms ‘PlayStation Network’ and ‘PSN’ across our platform in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services,” reads the email.

Sony makes clear this does not mean the PlayStation Network itself is going anywhere – only the name will change.

“The upcoming changes are purely visual and will not introduce any technical alterations to our offerings,” reads the email.

It’s not immediately clear what Sony plans to replace the branding with. However, Sony might be trying to move away from console-dependent branding as it figures out its marketing strategy for the future of PlayStation.
