Earlier today, Apple updated its list of obsolete devices to include two iPhones: the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.
Apple maintains three lists of devices: active, vintage, and obsolete. Active devices mean they get the full service treatment if you bring them into an Apple Store or ship it off to the company.
Meanwhile, Apple considers a device “vintage” if it has been five years after it was last sold. Although they could still be serviced, that will depend on availability of parts.
Finally, Apple generally classifies a device “obsolete” if it has been seven years since it was last sold. At that point, the company does not conduct any servicing.
With today’s move, every version of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 have been moved over to the obsolete list. That means you’re on your own for parts and servicing if something goes wrong.
