After weeks of teases, Chinese handheld maker Anbernic has finally opened pre-orders for the RG DS.
Aesthetically, it’s not hard to see where the company got its inspiration from. Unlike the DS Lite, however, the RG DS features larger twin 4-inch IPS displays. They top out at 640 x 480 resolution, so no integer scaling here.
Flanking the lower display are the D-pad, face buttons, and dual Hall effect sticks. The headphone jack is on the bottom of the device, while the charging port and SD card slot are at the top.
Moving to the interior, the RG DS features the Rockchip RK3568. It’s a relatively unknown chipset, though based on Anbernic’s teaser videos, it can run DS titles and some lighter 3DS games. It’s paired to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
There’s a 4,000mAh battery to keep things humming along for around 6 hours of gameplay. Finally, the handheld runs Android 14 out of the box and will come in three colors: Black and Crimson Red, Turquoise Blue, and Polar White.
The RG DS is available for pre-order from Anbernic’s website and its AliExpress storefront for $93 to $96. Anbernic expects shipments to start sometime before December 15.
