Looks like Capcom experienced a data breach

If you have an account with gaming giant Capcom, you might want to keep a close eye on your email inbox.

Earlier in the week, Capcom confirmed its online membership service, Capcom ID, was accessed “by a third party.” Reading between the lines, the company experienced a data breach that included millions of account emails.

The breach also included access to the birth date, gender, country or region, and nicknames of 43 accounts, as well as unauthorized changes to 196 account passwords. The silver lining is that, according to Capcom, no credit card information was included in the data breach.

According to its timeline, Capcom first detected “suspicious activity” on October 19. The company said it immediately blocked access, but by then, it was too late. From there, Capcom reported the incident to local police and started to investigate how the breach happened.

The cause has supposedly been “identified and addressed,” and said any service using Capcom ID remains available. However, Capcom warns users to look out for any suspicious emails in their inboxes.
