Playdate customers are getting tariff refunds

Written by:

In a move that could earn itself new fans, Panic announced it is issuing tariff refunds to customers of its Playdate handheld console.

According to the email published on Reddit, refunds are being distributed to those who purchased the Playdate when the U.S. government was still charging companies with tariffs for imported goods. They have since been struck down by the country’s Supreme Court, the highest court in the land.

As many other companies also did, Panic passed along the tariffs to the consumer. It’s unsure exactly how much was added to the Playdate’s price due to the tariffs, but the handheld has seen two price increases since 2023.

Regardless, some customers are seeing refunds of $12.36. Others, meanwhile, are seeing refunds of around $23. These refunds are going back to the original cards used when purchasing the Playdate and should be seen within a few business days.
