If you’re looking for a small-ish gaming handheld that doesn’t break the bank, Ayaneo is here with a new option.
Teased earlier this month, the Pocket Micro 2 features a petite 3.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. This makes the handheld a solid choice for older titles, but it also makes it an excellent choice for GBA emulation.
The GBA shares the same 3:2 aspect ratio as the Pocket Micro 2. In addition, the Pocket Micro 2’s display has a resolution of 960 by 640. That means you can upscale GBA titles at 4 times their native resolution.
Also on the front are a pair of recessed TMR joysticks that should virtually eliminate any hint of stick drift. Ayaneo also increased the size of the shoulder buttons and face buttons, as well as rounded out the sides, to improve comfort.
Under the hood, the Pocket Micro 2 features a “Snapdragon 865-class custom processor.” Ayaneo says the processor improves performance by 220 percent compared to the original Pocket Micro.
Then there’s the 3,950mAh battery, much larger than the 2,600mAh battery found in the original Pocket Micro. That does come with added weight, however – 248 grams compared to 233 grams.
Pricing starts at $239 for the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That promotional price will eventually go back up to $269. If you want more memory and storage, the 8GB/256GB version sells for $279, though that will eventually go up to $309.
The good news is the Pocket Micro 2 is already listed on Ayaneo’s website. The bad news is you can’t buy it yet. It seems the original batch of 100 units already sold out, so we’ll have to wait until the second batch is available.
