Meta is prepping sweeping layoffs that will see thousands of employees lose their jobs.
According to a Reuters report, Meta will lay off roughly 10 percent of its workforce, which amounts to around 8,000 employees. The company is reportedly planning additional layoffs in the second half of 2026.
It seems the layoffs are at least connected to Meta’s expanding use of artificial intelligence. The company is reportedly paying attention in how AI’s capabilities develop, since that will determine how many will be laid off in the second round and when that second round of layoffs will take place.
If these layoffs are real, they will be the most significant since late 2022 and early 2023, which Meta called the “year of efficiency.” At the time, the company laid off around 21,000 employees.
