Korra and Aang fighting in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game

We might actually have a good Avatar game soon

Developer Gameplay Group International announced fighting game Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will release across consoles and PC on July 2.

At the jump, the game will feature 12 characters across Avatar: The Last Airbender and sequel series The Legend of Korra. These include Fire Lord Ozai, Azula, Sokka, Toph, Aang, Korra, Katara, Zuko, Zaheer, Avatar Kyoshi, Avatar State Aang, and Avatar State Korra. Additional characters will presumably arrive over time.

This doesn’t seem to be some passerby project, either. Gameplay Group International said each character has over 900 hand-drawn frames. This lends the game a look that is extremely reminiscent of the two TV series.

It’s also taking the technical stuff seriously. The game will feature a rollback netcode that should ensure smooth frame-by-frame action when fighting with someone online.

Other features confirmed for launch include a single-player story mode, crossplay, ranked and casual matches, custom lobbies, a gallery mode with previously-unseen artwork, and a training mode.

The base version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will cost $29.99. The $59.99 Deluxe Edition will include a digital artbook, Year 1 Pass that will add five new characters, and the game’s original soundtrack.
