Meta is in hot legal water as it contends with an age discrimination lawsuit from a former employee, reported Gizmodo.
According to a lawsuit from former Meta senior director of monetization analytics Nicolas Franchet, he was unfairly laid off in February 2025 due to his age. He was 54 when he was laid off.
The lawsuit claims employees who were over 40 years of age were more likely to be included in layoffs relative to those under 40. It goes further and claims employees over 50 “were 2.5 times as likely to be terminated than employees under 40.”
The lawsuit uses Franchet’s performance reviews as proof. In August 2024, Franchet reportedly received a performance rating of “At or Above Expectations.” Fast forward a few months, and that rating dropped to “Met Most Expectations.” This led Franchet to be reportedly classified as one of Meta’s lowest performers.
According to the lawsuit, Meta switched to a less-rigorous review process ahead of the layoffs. This is what reportedly allowed the company to play loose with the performance reviews.
Franchet is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with the lawsuit. He said he lost around $12 million in equity, since most of his restricted stock units were set to vest over the next three years.
