According to a Bloomberg report earlier today, we are still a few years away from a MacBook Air with an OLED display.
The biggest issue is the price. OLED displays are not cheap to make or sell when compared to standard LCD displays. As a result, Apple is waiting for the technology to come down in price before eventually using it for Apple’s mid-range products. These would include the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
Reportedly, Apple plans to eventually use OLED displays for all of its product lines, top to bottom. As for the MacBook Air, it might not get an OLED display until at least 2028.
Apple currently uses OLED displays for the iPhone and iPhone Pro models, as well as the iPad Pro and Apple Watch. Rumors have persisted of an OLED MacBook Pro coming later this year.
