Apple continues to gain ground in China

Apple’s footprint in China continues to grow as it saw a double-digit percentage increase in sales in the country.

According to a report from Counterpoint Research, Apple saw an increase of 20 percent in iPhone sales in China from January through March 2026. This marks Apple’s best performance during any three-month period since the final quarter of 2020.

In a distant second was Honor with a two-percent gain. Vivo also saw a two-percent gain. Xiaomi was the biggest loser, seeing a year-over-year drop of 35 percent.

As for how Apple paced the field, part of the reason is the refreshed look of the new iPhones. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, in particular, saw design changes that have inspired a fresh round of copycat designs.

It also helps that iPhones benefit from promotional discounts, as well as subsidies offered by the local government. Honor also benefits from these factors, which is partially why it holds a 20 percent market share in China.

Looking toward the future, Counterpoint Research noted Apple “is widely viewed as best positioned to navigate the ongoing global memory crunch.” The company is known for keeping close tabs on its supply chain, and the iPhone’s relatively higher price tag helps it prevent significant losses in hardware profit.
