Italy isn’t too happy with Apple over the way its iCloud service works.
As reported by Reuters, Italy’s digital authority is looking into whether Apple violated the European Union’s Digital Markets Act. The AGCM accused the company of not giving third-party cloud services the same level of access to iOS and iPadOS as it does iCloud.
“For example, it appears that Apple does not allow alternative cloud storage services to use the iOS and iPadOS features enabling end users to perform a full backup of their devices’ data, while those same features are available to Apple’s iCloud,” wrote the regulator.
The AGCM will conduct a probe and send its findings to the EU Commission. If the commission finds Apple violated the DMA, the company could face fines or other measures.
According to Apple, it met its obligations under the law and can address the AGCM’s concerns.
“This new concern related to iCloud has never been raised in our extensive discussions with the European Commission on interoperability,” added Apple.
