According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on his Power On newsletter, Apple is looking into ways to 3D print aluminum for the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Gurman said this could change how Apple makes its Watch casings and iPhone enclosures. It could also lead to cheaper manufacturing processes and lower prices for the products.

Apple is no stranger to 3D printing – the company partially built the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 with 3D-printed titanium that was 100 percent recycled. Apple also used 3D printing to make the iPhone Air’s titanium USB-C port.

There’s no word on when Apple will implement a more substantial 3D printing process for the iPhone and Apple Watch.
